A bitter-sweet end to an action-packed racing event

By Elisabeth Rae Collett

Like I said before, I'm bummed that Tracy didn't make it to the final grid and I'm a little depressed that the weekend is over already. Oh, and my only gripe is that the event was sponsored by Budweiser, which meant there was no champagne at the end of the race! I'm a fan of champagne flying all over the place, but the tall bottles of Bud that were given to the top three winners just didn't cut it.

All pain-points aside, it was a fantastic weekend. Edmonton is next to rock the trackside action at the Edmonton City Airport and I'm extremely excited about the fact that IRL is here in Canada to stay.

IRL organizers mentioned at the end of the press conference that the IndyCar Series has a "five year plan" in Canada and that it'll definitely be back in Toronto next year. This shows the series' commitment and means that Canadians can get excited about this series that's not going away any time soon.

Plus, all the great racers that were enveloped from the CART / Champ Car series have made this a series of drivers that fans can really get behind and cheer for.

It appears that the drivers like racing the streets of Toronto as much as fans loved having them here.

"I have to thank all the fans for coming out today, and I can't wait to come back next year," Danica Patrick said in a statement just after her race today.

During his press conference, Will Power gave the same sentiments: "I love coming here. It's great racing, geat fans."

Well, this fan is ready for the pits (i.e. my bed!)...time for a little refuel, rest and recharge.

Thanks for following along and stay tuned to Sympatico / MSN Autos for coverage of the hottest automotive events!

Cheers!
