Winners' press conferences
By Elisabeth Rae Collett
Second and third place race winners, Ryan Briscoe and Will Power, barely took a breath after the race. Right after their podium fun, they were rushed to the media room for a press conference.
"That's what I call a real race," he says as he speaks to us. The two teammates seemed happy to both have made it this high in the ranks today.
After Briscoe and Power have left, Dario Franchitti is brought in for his own conference. This is the way that IndyCar operates the winning press blitzes.
When asked his opinion on how crashes like Tracy's and Castroneves and how they could impact a chance at the title, Franchitti responds with "everyone makes mistakes" and "everybody also gets caught up in other people's problems.
"It's about risk...how much risk do you want to take," he adds.
Dario says he has been fighting off an infection after getting bit by a tick a few weeks ago, so he's been bothered by that, he says, and taking "rather large" antibiotics.
In response to a question about the difficulty of the track, Dario responds by saying, "there was some very aggressive stuff going on, but it was a very, very challenging course here...I think it's easy to get frustrated here, too."
Franchitti has a special affinity for Paul Tracy, since they used to be teammates. "When P.T. actually wrecked, he was getting out of his car, I went by and he gave me kind of a 'get on with it' signal," says Franchitti. "That was a bit of motivation...nice to see."
The two will be reunited again in Edmonton, where Tracy will also be racing. "Hopefully we'll see him full-time again because it's great to have him back in the series," says Franchitti.
The Rexall Edmonton Indy takes place on Sunday, July 26 - just enough time to repair a few vehicles, and egos!
