Toyota temporarily stopping sale of recalled vehicles
By MSN Autos
Toyota is suspending the sale of eight models sold in Canada and the U.S. to fix a sticking gas pedal in a recall announced last week.
The Japanese automaker is recalling approximately 270,000 vehicles in Canada to fix the accelerator pedal on the following vehicles:
2009-2010 Toyota RAV4
2009-2010 Toyota Corolla
2009-2010 Toyota Matrix
2005-2010 Toyota Avalon
2007-2010 Toyota Camry (specific models)
2010 Toyota Highlander
2007-2010 Toyota Tundra
2008-2010 Toyota Sequoia
Toyota Canada Inc. says the sales ban and recall is confined to Toyota vehicles, and does not include vehicles under the Lexus and Scion brands. The company says there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. The sticking gas pedal issue is a separate recall from the ongoing recall regarding floor mats in Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
The carmaker is also halting production at its five North American facilities for the week of Feb. 1.
For more details about the recall, contact your local Toyota dealer, visit toyota.ca or call the customer centre at 1-888-869-6828.

It shows that their quality has gone downhill.
I bought a 06 Matrix and regretted ever since. Their quality has been going down hill. I have friends and aquaintances having the same feeling receiving bad service from their dealers with not support from Toyota. I know that soon I will be purchasing another new car and it will not be a Toyota.

I have had nothing but bad experience with Toyota. They're full of crap and their customer service is horrendous. Girlfriend bought a car and a month later after we completed the satisfactory survey the car started to go all whacky. They refused to be accountable and stand behind their product. I eventually took the vehicle to a GM dealership to address the problem that TOYOTA could not figure out and wanted to charge us even though vehicle under warranty. Way to go Toyota in Winnipeg!
Never will i step foot in your doors again!

Toyota has done all of us a great service. Yes, they have helped us all. By kicking GM and Ford in the butt with better quality, they forced the big 2 to wake up and start making better cars. If it weren't for Toyota, GM would still be building many, many cars with average to poor quality components. Now GM and Ford are building great cars and trucks and Toyota relaxed in their success and started to build old GM-like cars.
This goes to prove that the moment you take your customers for granted, you willl lose.
I hope that Toyota turns this around, but with all of my friends having so many issues with their Toyotas and Hondas, I might just buy a GM when my lease is up. GM is hungry and that means great cars. There used to be two constants in the automotive world. Corollas and Camrys would last for a very, very long time without issues. Camrys starting having issues a few years ago and now the famous Corolla is too. Even the head honcho of Toyota said that they got too cocky and relaxed. Think about it. Two years ago, Toyota started dropping te prices on their cars? Why would a top selling manufacturer do that? They started making them more cheaply, increased their profits and dropped their prices to sell even more. Well now we see what the real cost is to us.

I was just reading the artical on the Toyota vehicles gas pedal problem. We have an 2002 Camry SE
that has the same problem. Toyota has been building the Camry's with the same mechanical bits for a long time. That problem has been around for sometime, but we have been putting up with it and hopping that we would not get into an accident.

I've been in the OEM auto industry for almost 40 years. For the past 10-15 years I've had the displeasure of dealing with the OEM transplants. It has been my experience that they all have the same focus, cheap parts or materials take priority over quality components.
I do hope that this latest TOYOTA safety recall gets the full attention it deserves. FYI - Toyota has recalled more cars and trucks in the past 4 years than it has sold and very few people hear about it because it's covered up by the media. If this were a true domestic OEM car manufacturer that had these many safety and quality problems it would be given the most media exposure possible.
Buy foreign? No thanks, I'll stick with my American made vehicles thank you.

Why government still let those recall models operation on the road.( actually the ones are not fixed )
These cars & trucks are not safety on the public roads.
If accedent happened by these cars & trucks, who will be responsibily? Toyota, Owner of Toyota products, or our government????

yet another reason to say they are NUMBER 1!!

this has been going on for along time, not only toyota but all other imports as well. the only problem has been there recalls are a small blurb on the last pages of newspaper and big three are headlines. This is only the beginning there will be more.

it looks like everyone giving negative feed back about Toyota works in GM
Posted by: a corp is a corp is a corp | 2010-01-27 2:49:53 PM
looks like kamran works for toyota.
perhaps we should ignore this, so that media's year-long smear campaign against north american auto companies does not look like an agenda-driven exercise packed full of ulterior motives.
sssshhhhh.

hey kamran, i don't believe there's many GM employees left. remember it was GM that made poor quality cars. and had the worst employees. remember? at least that's the sales pitch we've been getting for the last while.
the north american industry failed for reasons that could never possibly happen to honda or toyota or 'insert any foreign brand here'. remember?
and that's why toyota is deservedly number 1. (repeat it over and over till you believe it)
and remember to always believe whatever the media says. even if it is disastrous to hundreds of thousands livelihoods.
putz. better to be quiet than bring attention to the lies.

all cars have there problem ,but just thing about it which car is REALLY north american,
All cars, van, truck HAVE japan or other foreign mad parts,
it is great that gm, ford have started to build quality cars ..but that is to be told in a few years too.
it is to early to say they have better or worse cars then the foreign cars....
the fault is ours gm, ford, Chrysler have employees that keep going back to buy the poor built product, and this is why the big three have not bothered to step up there product ,
we are the ones to blame for this, look at the past year the problems the big three had , axles, transmissions, electrical, air bags and so on...
no body is perfect........you get what you pay for.

Glad we bought a 2010 Mazda 3. A lot more fun to drive than any Corolla.
Fords are OK (Mazda shares platforms) but the Fusion we tried had a glaring quality issue in the interior. Still Ford is doing a lot right not the least of which is not running cap in hand to the government. New models coming out like the Taurus, Fiesta and a new Focus will give them a boost too.

My comment is about a 2007 Matrix. My 18 year old daughter was returning to college after the holidays in pretty cold weather and blew the motor. According to Toyota, there was a defect in the motor sensor where it should have alerted to low oil in the engine but by the time they stopped and checked the car and oil, it was too late. Toyota did fix the engine at no cost. I don't know that I would buy a Toyota. I don't think they are superior in any way.

I think it is fair to say that Toyota has been hiding the accelerator problem for so long. Last year they blamed on floor carpet stuck and this has caused the gas pedal from releasing. This has caused some deaths in United State and now the problem is escalating; as a result they have no choice but to halt production and sale. This is the wake up call for Toyota. I am not a GM worker. I just had bad experience with Toyota product. Please do not fix recall problem (when customer has his/her car in for maintenance service) without issuing a recall.

Yes, this has happened to me. After receiving our brand new 2010 Matrix we felt it would be wize to purchase snow tires. We went back to the dealer and spent another $900.00 for tires. We also installed Rubbermaid Floor mats to help protect the floor carpeting. Working in the Barrie area, we had a good snowfall during the day. The parking lot had not been plowed. I started the car, put it in gear and pushed down on the accelerator firmly, well... I went racing accross the parking lot with the throttle stuck down. Realizing what was happening I pushed down hard on the brakes and after a few moments managed to free up the accelerator pedal and not crash into anything. Seems the gas pedal got stuck to the floor mat, so I moved the mat as far back as possible where it sits today. Now I think I'll take it out completely, my kids drive the car and might not handle the same situation, with the same results! Another note; I also bought the same Rubbermaid mats for my wife's 2008 Yaris, (it's a standard) she tried to start the car with the new mats and found the car wouldn't even start. Seems the clutch must be fully depressed for the car to start which the new mats prevented. She realized the problem and her driver side mat is in the trunk! I love Toyota but I wonder if they are slipping. I was also not happy with their customer service our last visit to the dealer. I fear complacency breeds contempt.

I don't even own a Toyota, but from what I've heard, they still are the best vehicles in the world. Yes they're having a problem, but who doesn't?? As far as I'm concerned they're doing the best job of handling this situation than any of the big three. They're stopping all production instead of continuously installing them in the cars. You know how much additional money they're losing out on by doing this?? If it was any of the other companies, such as GM, they wouldn't even flinch. It doesn't even have anything to do with manufacturing...it's engineering. Whether it's a company, or any regular joe, all of you know you would still do anything to get an extra buck. But Toyota is admitting their mistake, and dealing with it the best was they can. As far as I'm concerned, they're being responsible. It's pretty sad the GM and Chrysler had to wait for their plants to shut down in order for them to finally make a decent vehicle. Toyota has for years, and now that they finally make a mistake-and are admitting to it-everyone thinks it's the end. Stop feeding off what the media tells you people...just think of what you would do in that situation.

I have a 2006 Matrix 4wd that has been the best car I've ever owned. In almost 4 years and 60,000 kms it hasn't even had a burnt out lightbulb yet. All I've ever done is changed the oil and drove. I live in the Yukon and we drive this car in 40 below zero, without the wind chill! No sticking gas pedals or any other problems.
Obviously other people have had different experiences with thier Toyota. This is my first vehicle built by Toyota but I would definately buy one again. Unlike my Chevy truck which had a leaking transmission before 20,000 kms and worn out ball joints at less than three years old.

I just read the article in the press from Kristine Owram cp, Toyota took immediate action, ?? what??, this has been going on for years, quit being easy on Toyota, if it were a domestic manufacturer the press would be all over it and front page news across the country and most likely saying to buy Japanese....Just my two cents worth!
