Questionable taste: Mansory unveils modified RR Ghost

The Mansory-modified Rolls-Royce Ghost

Money obviously doesn’t buy taste. Too often we’re reminded of that with gigantic mega mansions, the destroyer-sized yachts moored in Monte Carlo and the increasingly gaudy and ostentatious modifications offered on otherwise beautiful new vehicles. Perhaps the worst in recent years is the Russian-built Dartz Promrbron mega-SUV that claims to offer an optional whale penis-lined interior.

Still, besides headline-grabbing one-offs, there are a few companies that consistently put out gloriously horrendously customized luxury vehicles. One such modifier is Swiss-based Mansory, which isn’t above creating a pink-on-pink Bentley Continental GT with a contrasting carbon-fibre hood. Still, Mansory’s latest offering is aimed squarely at oil-rich sheiks and Russian magnates.

MansoryGhost-2 The press release refers to Mansory’s results as ‘refining’ the Rolls-Royce Ghost, but the flashy gold additions described as ‘delicate’ are anything but. These are not helped by the gold 22-in monoblock wheels, which are the very definition of subtlety. And adding a rear diffuser to an ultra-luxury sedan seems like screen-door-on-a-submarine stuff.

Mansory has not released photos of the interior yet, but says that it “presents itself as an oasis for luxury and perfectly goes with the exquisite outer refinement.” Well then.

The company does claim that it has performed some tweaks to the engine too (maybe a gold-plated turbocharger?) but power is up an extra 150 hp to 720, while torque rises to 750 lb-ft too. Oh, and the speed limited is removed too, freeing up the Ghost to hit a silly 310 km/h.

No word on pricing yet, but if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford one.
